Alan Yates has spent nearly three years on the design project and John Bailey has been testing the rods on the bank for nearly as long. So have many others, including Dave Coster. All have been pushing the prototypes to the limits.
If ever a rod was all things to all people this is probably the one. The short pack length of 3 feet, the crisp action, the power to deal with large feeders, leads and PVA bags, the sensitive tip that cushions on the strive - the Specimen 11' 6" Avon Smuggler has it all.
Slightly more suited to modern methods than the 11' version and certainly more at home on larger rivers this model also has excellent casting capabilities, which makes it a good long range rod on still waters. It also has the raw power needed to control hard fighting fish like barbel and carp, especially in tight situations.
Featuring the Hardy Anti-Lock action, this semi fast-actioned rod copes well in a huge range of situations and with the convenience of its four section high-modulus carbon construction is one of the most versatile rods in the Marksman range.
The *Hardy Anti-Lock action gives the angler tremendous confidence when playing fish close to the net, enabling big fish to be quickly controlled in tight situations.
*Hardy Anti-lock is built in to all Marksman rods. Essentially, when the rod is under load, in a fish-playing situation, it continues to transfer the power, and lunges of the fish, into the rod curve rather than bottoming out too quickly. This greatly reduces the chances of hook pulls, and makes fish playing a truly rewarding experience. By using a special blend of carbons and optimum resin ratios, Hardy have fine tuned the Marksman range to offer ultra high performance rods that retain that all important fish-playing feel.
The Marksman Specimen Avon rod comes with protective cordura tube, aluminium stoppers and custom designed anodised aluminium reel seat with screw down reel hood. (Images below)
